The Shaker movement in the USA began to produce furniture and homewares in styles which would influence even present day designs right from when the religious movement begun its organisation into communities in the 1790′s. One of the main reasons original pieces of shaker furniture still exist today is the quality of workmanship took precedence over frivolous excess in design. Modern day fashions often revisit the simple nature of shaker style and many people looking to retain a rustic simplicity in their interior design today describe their kitchen or bedroom style as shaker influenced. Architectural Ironmongery from Samuel Heath

Samuel Heath also offer a wider variety of finishes to their products than many manufacturers. If you are looking at more traditional finishes, Samuel Heath offer Non-lacquered Brass (NL), Polished Brass (PB), Sanded Brass (SD), Bronze (BRZ) and Bronze Metal Antique (BMA).  Samuel Heath also offer a range of more modern finishes including Polished Chrome (CP), Satin Chrome (SCP), Polished Nickel (PN) and Satin Nickel (SN). Most of their products are available in all of these finishes, however some are made to order and can take up to 4 weeks.

Bathroom Fittings and Accessories from Samuel Heath

Victorian Contemporary, Regency & Georgian Style Brass Door Handles

Firstly they are available in many different designs.  You could buy a basic Victorian contemporary design for example, which is square and simple in nature.  Alternatively you can try the more ornate Regency design featuring inset corners and a delightful design around the edges. In addition if you are looking for a period style then perhaps the Georgian style handle range maybe more suited to your needs.

Lever Latch, Lock & Bathroom Door Handles

Secondly they are available in latch, lock and bathroom designs. This allows you to situate them all over the house.  You can choose which doors you would like to lock, which ones you would prefer to keep unlocked at all times and have the bathroom sets situated on toilets and bathrooms enabling them to be locked with a turn of the thumb and finger. This gives you great versatility and you can still keep the same essential style of brass door handles throughout your home.

Finally the majority of our brass handles are solid brass and lacquered and are easy to maintain. All that is required in order to keep them gleaming and looking as good in years to come as they will the day you put them in place, is to regularly wipe a damp cloth over them.  As they are lacquered we do not recommend using anything but a damp cloth as the use of any polish or solvent can result in the lacquer breaking down and thus shortening the life span and quality look of the handle.

Modern designs and finishes

The range of modern designer cupboard handles is ever increasing and evolving with sleek curved bow handles, T-bar handles,D handles and the more unconventional designs becoming ever more popular. Perhaps as important as the design of the cabinet handle itself is the finish it comes in. With many kitchens having stainless steel and chrome appliances and fittings finding a handle to match has never been easier. Many of the cupboard handles we offer are available in chrome, satin chrome, satin nickel, stainless steel and even titanium finish. Furthermore many of the cupboard handles are available in more than one size and some like the T-bar design come as long as a metre!

Traditional styles and finishes

If you are wishing to keep to a more traditional or rustic style of kitchen or even restore an old wardrobe or cupboard there are a number of more traditional and antique designs and finishes available. One of the more popular designs is the steel cage weave which are available in drop pull or fixed and have matching cupboard knobs to suit. Others include porcelain crackle mixed with either antique brass or antique steel finishes, cup pattern handles, shaker style and curved pattern drawer handles. The finishes available include pewter, antique brass and black antique which look stunning on darker wood.
